Steeped in history yet economically and culturally progressive, Virginia’s capital boasts stunning architecture, excellent educational opportunities, a solid employment base and an eclectic mix of lovely homes and neighborhoods. A Metropolitan Area The Richmond Metro Region is comprised of the City of Richmond, Virginia and surrounding counties – Chesterfield, Hanover, New Kent and Henrico. A sprawling network of interstates has given rise to growth in business without losing the area’s charm. Whether it’s the top ranked schools, affordable housing, temperate climate or solid economic opportunities, Richmond has the best of both worlds. Like most cities, Richmond contains several distinct areas with their own identifiable look and feel.
 | | | Fan District |
The Fan Aptly named for its fan-like grid of pedestrian streets, the Fan district contains some of the city’s most desirable real estate and is where you’ll find Monument Avenue. Quietly nestled between Broad and Cary Streets, this area of Richmond is known for its large collection of Victorian townhouses earning it a place on the National Register of Historic Landmarks. Dotted with small cafes, grassy parks and adjacent to the Museum District and Carytown, it is also home to the campus of Virginia Commonwealth University.
 | | | Museum District |
Carytown / Museum District Home to 20 museums and galleries, the Museum District is located between the Fan and the city’s West End. Historical preservation is of chief importance to the residents of this disrict, which has led to its being named a Federal and State Historic District. Carytown, a residential and commercial mix of real estate located on and around Cary Street, hosts homes dating back to the 1920’s.
 | | | Luxury Apartments in Shockoe Bottom |
Shockoe Bottom Just east of downtown along the James River, Shockoe Bottom is the hub of the city’s nightlife, restaurants, dining and entertainment. With its original cobblestone streets and Colonial-style brick buildings, this area is also home to Tobacco Row. Loft apartments, condominiums, offices and retail space now reside where the smell of fresh leaf tobacco can still be found lingering in the air. The completion of a floodwall in 1995 was the impetus for a redeveloped riverfront area offering modern amenities such as upscale, open-air shopping malls that pull suburbanites into the city for festivals, cultural pursuits and frequent community events.

First Time Buyers >A Matter of Timing
Buying real estate can sometimes involve tricky timing. For example, you may have found the perfect house and are thinking about making an offer, but are feeling pressured to make a decision just when you want time to consider the matter. The agent tells you that another party is thinking about making an offer, so you shouldn't hesitate if you really want the house. What should you do? Trust your agent!
It is natural to feel some pressure from even the most easy-going real estate agent--and some uncertainty about making an offer. If you really like a house, there is always the possibility that someone else will share your enthusiasm for it. Whether your local market is active or sluggish, it is sensible to assume that another offer is likely to come in. Perhaps you can afford to "sleep on it", but moving as quickly as possible will minimize the possibility that the house will go to another buyer.
